Master Technician status, which is achieved
through certifi cation in the following specialty
areas: Diesel Engines (T2), Drivetrain
(T3), Brakes (T4), Suspension & Steering (T5),
Electrical/Electronic Systems (T6), Heating,
Ventilation & A/C (T7) and Preventive
Maintenance Inspection (T8).
ASE issues a certifi cate suitable for framing
plus a shoulder insignia that
identifi es the technician’s
specifi c areas of certifi cation.
Once certifi ed, though,
it isn’t forever. Technicians
must re-certify every fi ve
years to make sure they’re
keeping pace with changes
in the industry.
Having your technicians
certifi ed can provide a host
of paybacks. You’ll be able
to identify a technician’s
strong and weak areas,
so you can gain a sense
of direction in putting a
training plan together.
Certifi cation also demonstrates
initiative, a trait
that’s important to you as
a fl eet manager. Finally,
certifi cation demonstrates
professionalism, something
your technicians—and
you—can be proud of.
Preparation
before testing
All ASE certification
tests are administered on
computers at more than
500 proctored test center
locations throughout the
U.S. You can register for
ASE tests during separate
registration “windows”
throughout the year. For the
remainder of 2018:
Spring Registration –
April 10 to June 30
Summer Registration –
July 10 to September 30
Fall Registration –
October 10 to December 31
You can register online
at ase.com through the
myASE portal, which off ers
total account management.
Employers can also register
their technicians for
tests and schedule testing
appointments using the
company account manager
function.
Once registered for a
test, you have 90 days to
schedule an actual testing
appointment. This is an
important second part of the
process prior to taking your
test. You can use ASE’s Test
Center Locator and Find-A-Seat tool by going
to ase.com/testcenters.
ASE certifi cation is a win-win scenario for
all. You gain from knowing that your technicians
measure up to benchmarks established
by the industry and your technicians benefi t
knowing they’re proven professionals that can
be proud of their livelihood.
