By Toni McQuilken Until fairly recently, it seems as if when someone said “multi-channel marketing” they were talking about anything other than print. Email, Websites, pURLS, augmented reality, and a host of other digital forms of communication were the vehicles of choice. But the marketing industry is starting to realize that print is still one of the strongest tools in their marketing mix arsenal, and smart print service providers (PSPs) are fi nding new ways to take advantage of that fact. “In the last year, what I’ve been seeing out there, and what is interesting to me, is that there has been not really a shift, but an expansion of how customers are looking to use multi-channel tools,” says Charlotte Tueckmantel, GM/VP, Web to Print and Value Added Products, EFI (Booth 1349). “What I mean by that is people used to think a marketing campaign is just trying to drive leads, sales, revenue, etc., but we’ve seen an expansion in the last year of how companies want to use them. Whether it’s for a database cleansing, updating and getting more info about customers, and yes, traditional marketing.” “We expect to see more printers and marketers using print as part of an omni channel marketing plan,” notes Eric Hawkinson, Senior Director, Marketing, Production Print Solutions, Canon Solutions America (Booth 1500). “Print is a crucial element of this kind of marketing mix and is highly effective when compared to digital strategies. Research shows that the open rate for direct mail is 66%, which surpasses most email open rates.
