A Closer Look at Inkjet Tech Drupa 2016 might be behind us, but the technologies are coming to the United States Drupa 2016 is now behind us, but the technologies and innovations that were fi rst debuted in Dusseldorf, Germany are now starting to make their way to the shows here in the U.S. For some of those technologies, GRAPH EXPO 16 will be the fi rst time attendees will get the opportunity to see some of those new innovations up close and personal. Here is a closer look at just a few of the inkjet innovations that were fi rst launched at drupa, that you’ll want to be sure to ask about at the Inkjet Candy Store this year—even if you don’t see the equipment running, this is a great opportunity to ask questions and get a feel for what has been improved, and how the new technologies improve on the old. • Mimaki (Booth 2448) took home several European Digital Press (EDP) Association awards at drupa this year, and all three technologies are worth checking out: the JV55-320 was named Best Wide Format Roll-to-Roll Printer up to 320 cm; the UJF-7151plus earned an award for the Best Special Object Printer; and the TX300P was cited as the Best Textile Printer Roll-to-Roll up to 100 square feet per hour. • EFI (Booth 1349) had a wide range of inkjet products launched at drupa this past spring, and they are all solutions that are worth checking out. Of particular interest was the Nozomi C18000—a press that is also a 2016 GRAPH EXPO 16 MUST SEE ’EMs award winner—which is a 1.8-meter wide, single-pass, ultra-high-speed LED inkjet press. The press is capable of printing not only the traditional display graphics, but is particularly geared toward also producing packaging and corrugated projects just as seamlessly. In addition to the new new press, EFI also had their AquaEndure eco-friendly aqueous inkjet technology on display in Germany, along with a new Fiery XB digital front end platform, Fiery Navigator, a cloudbased cloud- Mimaki TX300P textile printer print management platform for digital presses, and several new Productivity Suites aimed at different segments of the print market. • Epson (Booth 2649) launched the 44" SureColor SC-P10000 wide-format printer at drupa, to great success. The company sold 10 machines at the show, and U.S. printers will want to take a closer look at the technology as well. • Still in development, but worth asking about at GRAPH EXPO 16: KBA (Booth 1435) and Xerox (Booth 1625) announced a joint partnership to develop an industrial inkjet press for the folding carton market. Once it comes to market, it will have the ability to digitally print wide-format cartons, for items such as cosmetics or food packaging, which has traditionally only been produced with offset. •HP (Booth 1825) launched the Latex 500 series at drupa, which are 64" machines that can run at speeds up to 248 square feet per hour, and feature new vivid print modes that can increase ink density by 50% to create more vibrant pieces. These machines are absolutely worth asking about at GRAPH EXPO 16. And this is just a sample of the broad range of technologies launched at drupa for the wide-format inkjet market. The Inkjet Candy Store is the perfect opportunity for printers based here in the U.S. to get more information about all of these exciting technologies, and learn more about the innovations each of the participating vendors plans to bring to market in the coming months.
