Soderstrom Award at the gala Soderstrom Recognition Dinner in the Tuscany Room of the Orlando Ritz-Carlton on Saturday, Sept. 24. Long noted as one of the industry’s most celebrated events, the dinner once again provided a perfect opportunity for recognition of the best of our industry and an evening of fellowship for friends new and old from throughout the industry. During this year’s program, a dozen industry leaders were also honored with induction into the prestigious Idealliance Soderstrom Society. “We were delighted to present the 2016 Soderstrom Award to Joel Quadracci,” says David J. Steinhardt, President and Chief Executive Offi cer of Idealliance (Booth 1009), the new association formed through the recent merger of Idealliance and Epicomm. “Joel’s career is evidence of his exceptional commitment to the advancement of our industry and makes him a very deserving recipient of our highest honor for industry service.” Quadracci is Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Offi cer of Quad/Graphics, Sussex, WI, a company founded by his father in 1971. Making Mailing Fulfi lling The same forces that have been driving the printing industry—including the transition to digital, the decline of run lengths, the move toward customization and personalization, and the acceleration of time to market—have also been having an impact on the mailing industry. Deliver—The Mailing & Fulfi llment Center at GRAPH EXPO 16 features the world’s largest mailing show, a one-stop resource for all the latest equipment, software, and supplies, as well as research, market data, best practices, and other solutions for managing printing and mailing. Here are some highlights of this pavilion: • Kirk-Rudy’s (Booth 1771) high-end Phoenix piezo print system, designed originally for mailing applications, now uses UV-curable inks which allows it to print on a variety of substrates beyond envelopes and labels, such as plastics, opening up the range of applications it can support. The company is also demonstrating a brand-new piezo inkjet system that is slightly smaller than the Phoenix. Applications for the new machine include addressing as well as things like bar codes, serial numbers, and expiration dates. • W+D (Booth 1271) is introducing its Easy Enveloper to North America. This is an easy-to-use envelope converter that can produce up to 30,000 envelopes an hour, eliminating the need for direct mail printers to outsource envelope production. The system creates direct mail envelopes from printed rectangular sheet stock with no secondary die-cutting, and supports both coated and uncoated stocks. It can also automatically insert RFID tags inside envelopes, produce special shape envelopes, and add front and back windows or foil enhancements inline with no secondary fi nishing processes. • Lake Image Systems (Booth 1169) is introducing its Discovery Roll Inspector at this week’s GRAPH EXPO, a new product that won a MUST SEE ’EMS in the Color Management and Quality Control category. Discovery Roll Inspector is an all-in-one, cost-effective, and high-performance in-line print quality inspection system that automatically inspects 100% of the web, helping eliminate production costs resulting from printing errors. Lake Image is also demonstrating its other, past-MUST SEE ’EMS-winning variable-data verifi cation, integrity management, and print quality inspection solutions. • BCC Software (Booth 1377) is demonstrating its Integratec API Platform, which garnered a MUST SEE ’EM in this year’s Imprinting, Mailing, Shipping and Fulfi llment Category. The Integratec API Platform is secure and scalable architecture that allows users to integrate their USPS mailing preparation process with their overall production workfl ow. It is PAVE-certifi ed and is the only presort API available with both top security protocols and postal certifi cation. The company is also demonstrating its other address quality, mailing preparation, and data quality solutions. Be sure to visit the entirely of the Deliver—The Mailing & Fulfi llment Center to see not only how best to react to and cope with changes in the mailing market, but also how to use the same equipment to expand the range of applications that can be produced. 24 | September 25, 2016 | GRAPH EXPO 16 Offi cial Show Daily | PrintingNews.com
