The Materials Really Do Matter The Materials Matter pavilion returns this year bigger and better than ever. At last year’s GRAPH EXPO, the Materials Matter pavilion debuted with the idea of highlighting the sheer breadth and depth of substrates that printers can choose from. It was an immediate hit, garnering tremendous interest and kudos from both the suppliers and the attendees alike. So it is returning this year bigger and better than ever. While substrate suppliers have always been at GRAPH EXPO, Debbie Vieder, the Director of Communications for NPES,/GASC notes that in the past, there weren’t a lot of them, and they weren’t front and center at the show. The Materials Matter pavilion changed that, allowing the substrate providers to take center stage in one featured area and demonstrate how choosing the right material really does make a difference. “Mohawk worked closely with GASC to spearhead the concept for the Materials Matter pavilion at GRAPH EXPO 15, and we are pleased to support the collaborative initiative again this year,” says Bart Robinson, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Mohawk (Booth 2413). “The Materials Matter pavilion features multiple fi ne paper and substrate manufacturers to demonstrate the powerful role that paper and non-paper substrates play in every print project.” Masterpiece Graphix (Booth 2512) is one of the suppliers who will be new to the pavilion this year, and they recognize that it presents a great opportunity for vendors and printers alike to really dive into how different substrate choices can really make or break a project. “Often the greatest frustration for a commercial printer is fi nding quality materials to print on—material that can be depended upon to work each and every time,” says Mellissa Campbell, Marketing Coordinator for Masterpiece Graphix. “Our team of Digital Material Specialists are excited to help attendees troubleshoot substrate obstacles, get inspired by specialty materials, and discover new ways to grow their printing business.” And they are just one new pavilion participant— this year, not only will there be a wider range of voices to learn from and bounce ideas off of, the success of the pavilion has also brought in new substrate vendors to exhibit at the show for the fi rst time, giving attendees a wider range of options than ever before. “The variety of materials there will be the stand-out feature of this pavilion,” says Vieder. “It is a place for folks to get a sense of what they can do with different materials, and what customer might be looking for—it is a one-stop-shop for these materials, rather than having them spread out across the entire show fl oor. This pavilion is a great side-by-side resource and comparison location, where attendees can get questions answered.” No matter what equipment a shop is running, what types of customers are targeted, or what types of jobs are typically run, the Materials Matter pavilion will be a great resource. Unlike the House That Print Built pavilion, which will highlight fi nished applications, and will include information about what equipment and substrates the pieces were printed on, the Materials Matter pavilion will be focused exclusively on the substrates themselves, allowing printers to directly compare the raw potential of the options, instead of the fi nished projects. This is one pavilion that everyone should plan to visit. Arandell Adds Sixth Goss Sunday Press to High-end Catalog Production Plant Goss International (Booth 2731) announced that specialist catalog printer, Arandell of Menomonee Falls, WI, will install its sixth Goss Sunday Press in Q4 2016, further expanding its market-leading production capabilities to service new business. With 70 new titles awarded in 2016, the new 57" (1450mm), 24pp fi ve-unit Sunday 2000 will enable Arandell to increase its production capacity and continue to deliver the premium-quality products and high-standard level of service it is renowned for. “As a long-standing Goss customer and early adopter of the Sunday technology, adding another Goss Sunday press to our extensive pressroom line-up was a natural step as demand for our products grew again last year,” explains Brad Hoffman, President and CEO, Arandell. “Our clients require exacting color and it is our experience that the Sunday Press is one of the few presses in the world that can deliver precise color at the speeds we require.” The speeds and high-productivity of the Sunday press can be largely attributed to two pioneering Goss innovations— gapless blankets and pinless folders. Gapless blankets eliminate print defects such as bump streaking, doubling and web fl utter, allowing faster printing on wider webs with premium quality. Arandell’s Goss Sunday 2000 will be confi gured with a PPF-3.2 pinless former folder. The pinless folder reduces the non-print area on the cylinder, allowing Arandell to choose a shorter cutoff and achieve significant paper savings. Arandell also chose the Goss Quick Plate Loading enhancement, which can cut plate changing times by up to 40% , and a VITS Rotocut Sheeter. The sheeter provides superior cutting accuracy, an integrated print-to-cut register (Left to right) Graham Trevett, Vice President of Sales, Goss; Brad Hoffman, President and CEO, Arandell; and Mike Shaw, District Sales Manager, Goss control and further minimizes paper waste. The Sunday 2000 will also be supplied with a perforator, UV coater, and pre-folder. This will give Arandell the fl exibility to produce press-fi nished covers as well as signatures. “Any solutions to reduce waste at our production facilities fi t perfectly into our environmental policies,” adds Hoffman. “Being environmentally-responsible is just one way Arandell is focused on the future. Having been at the helm of this innovative, forward-thinking company for two years now, we have already made some signifi cant operation effi ciencies to ensure we stay competitive and continue to provide the best possible service for our customers. “This latest addition to our cutting-edge pressroom is yet another demonstration of our commitment to effi - cient production processes and our rigorous approach to product quality. Partnering with Goss has been crucial to our success to date and moving forward, bolsters our confi dence in the future.” 40 | September 25, 2016 | GRAPH EXPO 16 Offi cial Show Daily | PrintingNews.com
