Standard Demonstrates Smarter Workfl ow Effi ciency in Feeding and Finishing Standard Horizon RD-4055 Rotary Die Cutter The recently released Standard (Booth 1548) Horizon SmartSlitter is a smart sheet processing system that can slit, gutter cut, edge trim, cross-cut, perforate, and crease—all in one pass. The machine’s skip perforation feature can produce T- and L-perfs, which are ideal for coupons, tickets, and business reply cards. The system is also capable of both matrix and rotary creasing. For accordion fold applications or perfect bound books, it can perform up and down creasing in one pass. The Standard Horizon RD-4055 Rotary Die Cutter is designed to meet the growing demand for short-run die-cut products. A previous MUST SEE ‘EMS award winner, the RD-4055 can diecut, crease, perforate, slit, hole punch, and round-corner in one process for both digital and offset printed sheets, and is ideal for producing a variety of print applications such as door hangers, table tents, CD holders, pop-up business cards, stickers, labels, and specialty packaging, and even applications that require an additional folding process such as boxes, pocket folders, and greeting cards. The system can achieve up to 6,000 cycles per hour on sheet sizes up to 15.74x21.65". A repeat register function allows multiple-up applications from a single-up die to minimize costs. Making its North American debut in Orlando and complementing the RD-4055 is the new Dual Magnetic Cylinder, which allows for magnetic and pin-registered mounting of matching male and female dies, and provides additional creasing and embossing patterns to suit a wider range of substrates and light packaging applications. Also making its North American debut is Standard Hunkeler’s enhanced WI6 inspection and tracking software, ensuring error-free print quality through continuous monitoring of the printed web for quality-related checks such as color registration, front-to-back registration, variable content, print marks, logos, pictures, and jet-outs. The new space-saving, integrated design employs compact Contact Image Sensor (CIS) technology for high-end quality and integrity control, and can be combined with the new and improved Hunkeler Site Manager for fl exible reporting and tracking at the line, job, document, and sheet level. At the show, the WI6 system is running on Standard’s continuous-feed saddlestitching solution, a roll-to-booklet confi guration that pairs the Standard Horizon StitchLiner 6000 saddlestitcher with Hunkeler’s UW6 unwinder and CS6 rotary cutter to produce up to 6,000 high-quality booklets per hour at 600 feet per minute, with fully automated set-up and variable sheetcount bookletmaking. Standard is also showcasing a roll-tostack solution to deliver book blocks for perfect binding. The unique AutoRegister feature automatically diverts blank pages and accurately registers to the print marks. The confi guration runs at up to 500 feet per minute to produce straight and fully separated book blocks three-up from a roll. Book blocks are then transferred for near-line fi nishing on Horizon perfect binders and trimmers. The system boasts easy set-up and changeovers with single-person operation. Matching the Right Solution to Your Specifi c Needs It’s old news that the business environment for print has changed over the past decade, forcing print service providers to reevaluate the way they run their business and look for software solutions that can help them service their customers more effi ciently, while helping them to grow their business. Though there are many software solutions on the market, there is no single ‘one size fi ts all’ solution that is right for every single shop. Before you begin the process of evaluating software solutions, however, it is very helpful to understand what your specifi c challenges are for your businesses. At PressWise (Booth 2384), while the underlying reason that most customers adopt our software is to streamline their workfl ow to help grow their business, the specifi cs for each company may differ slightly. The examples below are real world scenarios that led to customers purchasing the PressWise MIS and Workflow Automation platform. • Platinum Direct (platinumdirect. com), based in Dallas, TX, were looking for a workfl ow solution for the digital world that could effi ciently handle reduced size, and more frequent orders “We wanted a way for these smaller programmatic jobs to bypass Account Services,” says CEO Bob Baldridge. Since PressWise is a Web-based SaaS product, he did initially wrestle with some concerns about security and the general idea of having his data hosted off-site. “Most small business owners are control freaks, and I am no exception. But the conclusion I came to is that with all of the safeguards that are in place on the data side, it is probably more secure than my own servers would be.” • Justin Feickert, VP of Sales & Marketing for Midstates Media (midstatesmedia.com) explains as he was seeking an automated system that tied the Web-to-print storefronts directly into a back-end MIS system. “We wanted something that was cloud-based and overall very userfriendly. We also wanted a system that created a customer order portal regardless of size of customer.” • Manager Leiman Chan, of Nonstop Printing (nonstopprinting.net) in Hollywood, CA, explains that he was interested in a centralized system that allowed everyone in his shop to easily access job and customer information instead of having to ask around the offi ce. “We couldn’t really look at old orders; we didn’t have a quoting module and pretty much everything was in our heads. You can’t run a business that way these days.” Justin Feickert, VP of Sales & Marketing, Midstates Media • Keith Stoner, Prepress Systems Manager, of Hemlock Printers (Hemlock.com) explains that their requirements were fairly straightforward—a way to connect a production system to their various order sources that would then streamline the production of those orders that came in. “That’s all we really wanted in the beginning—an API that would let us quickly talk with client storefronts and a batching tool for effi cient digital printing.” Whatever the problem, there is a solution. As a business owner, your job is to identify the specifi c challenges you are looking to overcome, and opportunities you are want to take advantage of, so you can then begin the process of evaluating the various software solutions on the market today. And where better to start the vendor evaluation process than at GRAPH EXPO? by DJoin RSA for Lunch uring GRAPH EXPO 16, in-plants are invited to a free one-hour lunch session today, sponsored by Rochester Software Associates (RSA) (Booth 2067), that will cover Web to-print best practices. A panel of experts— IMG’s Howie Fenton; In-Plant Graphics Editor, Bob Neubauer; and RSA’s Vince Tutino—will discuss installation, roll out, marketing, user adoption, pricing, automation, and more. The event will be held at the Orange County Convention Center’s North Hall - Rooms N310AB, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. 20 | September 27, 2016 | GRAPH EXPO 16 Offi cial Show Daily | PrintingNews.com
