RSA Showcases Web-to-Print, Prepress Tools and More In the Software: Workfl ow & Design/Prepress Pavilion, Rochester Software Associates (RSA) (Booth 2067) is demonstrating new versions of several of its production workfl ow software applications designed for both in-plant printing departments as well as autonomous commercial printers. In addition to the company’s fl agship product WebCRD, a Web-to-print system that automates ordering, fulfi llment, job ticketing, production management, and chargebacks across corporate print centers, the company is also demonstrating a new version of QDirect. QDirect controls and automates workfl ows, routes jobs, and manages output across the entire enterprise, while allowing users to consolidate printing and maximize equipment utilization. It accepts jobs from any source, including the network, mainframes, and hot folders, as well as other RSA applications such as WebCRD and M.I.S. Print. It can centrally manage and route print jobs to a wide range of destinations, including production printers, the fl eet, archival systems, email, or an external prepress and workfl ow application. Also updated is RSA’s ReadyPrint universal prepress and makeready suite. One of the hallmarks of ReadyPrint is that it is vendor-neutral, and thus will work with virtually any type of printing hardware. “A lot of the tools that are out there are specifi c to a vendor’s printer,” says Elisha Kasinskas, Marketing Director for RSA. “If someone removes a printer made by Company A and replaces it with one from Company B, what do they do with their prepress tools? Ours will work across all production vendors so you can use one tool rather than multiple ones.” RSA has added much more functionality to ReadyPrint with the new release, adding features that are applicable across the whole prepress process, not just makeready, such as automation, job grouping, and managing document assembly. Take for example a health care provider’s benefi ts package for policyholders. With ReadyPrint, users can ensure that if a particular benefi t changes, a document that cites the benefi t will automatically be updated. “It makes these documents more evergreen,” says Kasinskas, “and reduces the risk of putting out something that’s not current and compliant. It also reduces waste.” RSA also held its annual WebCRD User Group meeting on Monday, September 26, and participated in the IPMA “State of the Industry” luncheon on September 26, p , prior to the User Group meeting. Using Data to Grow Your Business How well do you know your own business? You might know what products and services sell well, but do you know your margins on them? You may have added new services in response to requests from customers or perceived market opportunities, but are you charging the right price for them? Should you even be offering those services? As print service providers begin to take advantage of the assorted print management software systems out there, and take a closer look at their workfl ows, they are often surprised at what they fi nd. Yet many print organizations lack the required skills or tools to tap into a wealth of knowledge that could be used to their competitive advantage. Print management systems are designed to help bridge that gap. Information gathering never stops. With every click, more data is created, data that can be extracted and used to drive your business forward. Take for example, Moxy Ox (www.moxyox.com), a print and design company based in Tontitown, AK. They were using a combination of a free online project management tool and a homemade bare-bones pricing system to run their business. They spent hours manually typing all their estimates and emailing them to clients. This meant they had no customer tracking, no central data repository for job history, and little knowledge of profi t and loss margins for each type of job that they were running. They knew something had to change and set about fi nding a print management system to help them manage their growing business. After selecting the all-in-one Print MIS and Workfl ow Automation platform PressWise (Booth 2384) and analyzing their workfl ow to better track their costs of production, they were given insights into their business and profitability that they never had before. What started out for Moxy Ox as a need to become more effi cient, ended up as an epiphany, once they realized what data could do for Matt Huber, Head of Operations for Moxy Ox their bottom line. “I have been able to adjust product pricing on items that we now know had ridiculously low margins,” says Matt Huber, Head of Operations for Moxy Ox. “We can also now focus on tracking what products are and aren’t moving, and make strategic decisions accordingly.” Print management systems can provide you with valuable, real-time data about the performance of your shop, so you can analyze your workfl ow and highlight areas for improvement. With the right system you should be able to create custom reports that look at things such as sales trends, inventory levels, staff productivity, customer order history, storefront activity, shipping and much more, to get greater insight into your company performance. Tools such as Job Costing can provide key data on each type of job that you run, letting you review items such as estimated costs versus actual costs-per-job so you can analyze areas of your workfl ow that may need improvement, pinpointing unprofi table products or ineffi cient processes. Understanding the data will help you remain competitive and adjust accordingly. The type of instrumental knowledge a print management system offers lets you close the loop on the costs of production and job profi tability, and provides you with the insight and agility to make critical business decisions in real time with solid data, data that can mean the difference between success and failure in today’s highly competitive print environment. 22 | September 28, 2016 | GRAPH EXPO 16 Offi cial Show Daily | PrintingNews.com
