Partnerships are Essential to Success Pittsburgh, PA’s AlphaGraphics in the Cultural District originated in 2000 as a printer offering value-added services. Owners Clare and Bill Meehan launched the company with strong graphic design capabilities, believing that providing services beyond just printing would capture business and position the franchise for growth. Clare Meehan explained, “With a focus on meeting ever-changing customer needs, we’ve grown to become a small agency with an internal facility to produce the work. We’re a one-stop-shop. We have carved out a unique niche in the marketplace.” AlphaGraphics believes its biggest business opportunities lie in building partnerships. It’s a consultative approach where listening to customer needs comes fi rst, and developing compelling, effective, customized solutions is the result. “We fi nd the opportunity in every challenge,” Meehan added. “Some of our greatest successes and our best R&D efforts have come from an unfailing ability to strive to meet an unmet customer need.” A recent example of such an opportunity came with a global signage project. When aluminum giant Alcoa acquired RTI International Metals, they needed a partner capable of completely rebranding the RTI facilities. A huge undertaking with a tight timeline, the job involved intensive project management, design, production, and installation of signage at dozens of plants in the United States, UK, Canada, France, China, and Japan. Alcoa turned to AlphaGraphics to meet their needs. Together they worked closely throughout the quick 45-day turnaround, communicating among local, national, and international Alcoa and RTI employees. AlphaGraphics overcame a variety of challenges including scope and spec changes, all while managing 16 different domestic and international vendors. A total of 132 signs—varied in design, size, material, and installation requirements—were completed in time for the company’s formal announcement of the acquisition. Finishing 4.0 Meet the Future.
