The Taking a look at the laws and regulations impacting the print industry. By Toni McQuilken Picture No matter what your personal beliefs or where you live in the country, politics have been inescapable this year. Starting in 2015 when the Presidential election started to heat up, you can’t turn on the television or radio without hearing and seeing ads, you can’t drive down the street without seeing bumper stickers and signage, and you can’t avoid the direct mail that shows up in your mailbox. All of this can be great for an industry that makes its profi ts on these materials, but in the midst of all that work, it is easy to lose sight of some of the other issues going on behind the scenes. Th e major industry associations are all involved in one way or another in various legislative actions. Some, like the Printing Industries of America (PIA), are more active with Political Action Committees (PACs) that specifi cally lobby Congress on various issues, and others, like SGIA, take more of a PrintingNews®com June 2016 ® Printing News 23
