PROJECT PROFILE Customer: Cooper Farms Production Shop: FASTSIGNS of Lima, OH Installation Date: September 19, 2014 Project: Rebrand the Cooper Farms facility provided the design services on this, the fabrication, had to brush up on some additional safety practices as well as provide increased insurance coverage for this task.” FASTSIGNS Lima used a combination of materials depending on each divisions’ budget for various parts of the rebrand. For the HR office they uses a HDU (high density urethane) double sided sign panel mounted between two extruded aluminum posts to identify the “place to fill out applications.” This solution was similar to previous corporate office rebranding FASTSIGNS Lima completed for Cooper Farms in 2011. For the Biosecurity and Sow division offices, FASTSIGNS Lima wanted to give a similar look to the HR office, but Engle reported that they were restricted by budgets for this job. “As an alternative we utilized laser cut acrylic pieces that were assembled to provide some dimensional relief and give the same feel as HDU for a much lower costs,” he said. Both of these signs were mounted between extruded aluminum posts with ball finials to look like the Corporate Offices as well as the new HR Office. In addition, wall graphics were also produced from 3M IJ180 that were heated to take the shape of a cinder block wall as well as laser cut acrylic panels with stand-offs. Talking Turkey For the 2014 Presidential Turkey project, FASTSIGNS Lima collectively worked with the Cooper Farms’ communications manager to identify a solution that would allow for the new growing barn to be branded so that it looked like the Corporate Barn located next to headquarters. FASTSIGNS Lima also proposed multiple solutions that would educate the visitors to the growing barn on the life cycle of the turkey as well as different breeds. “We wanted to capture who was visiting the barn, so we suggested a large map of the region that visitors could place a pin in the map to show where they came from. In addition we wanted to pay special attention to ensure the visitors were exposed to the Cooper Farms logo and the fact that they are a family owned operation and pay respect to the founder as well as the 2nd, 3rd and the very young 4th generation of the Cooper family,” said Engle. The 2014 Presidential Turkey project began in July when the poults (baby turkeys) were hatched. FASTSIGNS Lima branded the growing barn to look just like the larger Corporate Barn located at the company’s headquarters. “We were attempting to make the growing barn look like a miniature version of the company’s logo, so we suggested they add a windmill next to the barn to give it that feel,” said Engle. The “mini Cooper Farms Barn” was decorated with acrylic letters and a contour-cut polymetal panel and the barn was flanked by a small wind mill. FASTSIGNS Lima then branded the inside of this barn with historical photos of the founder as well as the next three generations. They also produced graphics that showed the life cycle of a turkey as well as the different breeds of turkeys. And then produced a map that could have pins placed in it to show where visitors came from. FASTSIGNS Lima also helped Cooper Farms promote the growing of the Presidential Turkey by producing a stand-behind graphic with turkeys spelling out O H I O to be displayed at an Ohio State University Football tailgate party. Key Takeaways According to Engle, the biggest takeaway was with the 85-foot installation. “What I learned there was that with good planning you can have great results. This installation was planned out with great detail. We had pre-departure reviews with everyone on what their specific tasks were. We had on-site refresher safety training for each role. Every person on site had specific instructions that they were trained on at their site as well as training on what to do in the event of an emergency. We spent about two hours going over every detail at the site with the staff before we ever entered the boom. As a result the installation only took four hours once we completed training. Everyone felt safe and afterwards commented that we should actively seek out more jobs like this as they felt they were well prepared and capable. This job only worked because we selected the right materials, utilized expertise of other franchisees as well as utilized expertise of FASTSIGNS corporate employees and we planned every detail of the installation,” said Engle.
