Application Spotlight Barn Raising FASTSIGNS of Lima, OH helps Cooper Farms rebrand By Denise M. Gustavson Back in 2014, Cooper Farms was in the process of growing its business in the Lima, OH area. Growth consisted of adding new facilities as well as purchasing existing businesses throughout the year that would require rebranding. In addition, Cooper Farms was trying to promote its raising of the 2014 Presidential Turkey. (This is the turkey that is pardoned by President Obama in Washington, DC, a couple days before Thanksgiving.) Enter FASTSIGNS of Lima, OH. “We had proposed to utilize similar designs that we had completed for them in the past to brand their new HR office, biosecurity building, and new Sow Division headquarters in Fort Recovery, OH,” said owner Mark Engle. “The challenge with this was to give the same look as existing signs and keep within a desired budget.” FASTSIGNS’ first mission was to rebrand the chicken egg hatching operation in Fort Recovery that Cooper Farms had purchased—all within 12 hours of signing the legal paperwork transferring ownership. This was completed with the traditional vinyl graphics with opaque lining, which was placed over the existing graphics. FASTSIGNS also was asked to make sure that the Cooper Farms name was very visible to people who visited the community where the new acquisition was located. “We proposed placing a giant logo on top of their 85-foottall silo structure that faced the main street in this town of a couple thousand residents,” said Engle. Cooper Farm agreed, and the work began. “The graphic was produced as nine separate pieces of polymetal which were then lifted up to the top of the silo structure—85 feet in the air. This involved the entire FASTSIGNS Lima team, and everyone had their task to complete to ensure it was successful. “We had Sarah controlling traffic below, me and Bren up in the lift taking supplies to the top, and Derrick working on a platform at 65-feet to feed us materials to install on the side of this silo,” said Engle. “We 42 Wide-Format Imaging | April 2015 MyPRINTResource.com
