APRIL 2017 | VehicleServicePros.com 15 VehicleServicePros.com/10122984 A Tool To Speed Transmission Repair By David A. Kolman, Editor Technological improvements are continually being added to commercial vehicles to, among other things, minimize downtime. Power management company Eaton (www.eaton.com) recently launched a suite of connected solutions designed to improve a fleet’s uptime and efficiency, plus reduce the total cost of ownership. The initial module in the suite is IntelliConnect Remote Diagnostics. It provides near real-time monitoring of vehicle fault codes, prioritizes the critical events and provides accurate and comprehensive action plans by its technical experts to help fleets increase vehicle uptime by reducing unplanned downtime and quicker repair diagnosis. Using a holistic systems approach, Eaton looks at data from other vehicle components to determine potential root causes and solutions, says Gerard Devito, chief technology officer, Eaton Vehicle Group. Designed for Eaton automated and automatic transmissions, this module is built on an open architecture, which means that it will work with a fleet’s preferred telematics provider, he explains. Customizable delivery of information means alerts can be provided via email, text message, Navistar OnCommand Connection, a fleet’s own telematics portal or Eaton’s intuitive and informative portal. “Other telematics systems provide limited insight into Eaton transmission fault codes,” adds Devito, “but only IntelliConnect can diagnose our complete list of fault codes.” Do not judge where or what they are doing.
