Do It My Way Personalization, as discussed in the Wide-Format & Signage March Editor’s Note, is a growing trend and one that print providers can take to the bank. Brands are discovering that they can elevate customer loyalty and engagement— and use their customer base as an engine of advocacy to potential buyers. Product customization helps brands boost sales on their own websites or gain share on a retailer sites. This customization and personalization is translating to sales for many shops in various applications from vehicle graphics to interior decoration, and savvy top shops are looking for growth in both these markets in 2016. “Clients want unique and are usually willing to pay for it,” said Davis. “We just invested in an HP LX3500, anticipating growth in interior décor,” said Schellerer of ER2 Image Group. “We feel wallpaper, canvas wraps, pillows, furniture, light shades, decorative textiles, and other elements Specialty Printing & Graphics Retail and POP Displays and Signs within this space are still at the beginning stages of a digital revolution. The sign and display market has over 72 billion square feet of media. Of that number, over 40 percent of it is being produced digitally. The decoration industry produces a staggering 250 billion square feet of output, and only one percent is produced digitally.” “Although the majority of our business is commercial, we see a huge opportunity in residential business. So many people are into DIY and love to be able to express their creativity,” said Mariela Faith, co-owner, Off the Wall Signs & Graphics, Las Vegas. “We recently moved into a new facility and have loved the process of decorating our shop with wall wraps, acrylic and aluminum stand-offs, canvas, diecuts, Posters Fleet and Vehicle Graphics floor graphics, etc. Everything is completely custom and interchangeable.” “We are definitely seeing a big increase in our fabric, décor, and clear acrylic printing. The print quality that we can deliver with our direct to fabric printing is vibrant, consistent and when it comes off the printer it’s ready for finishing,” said Randy Crow, owner of Source One Digital, Norton Shores, MI. “The décor sector is growing for us, too. Our capability to print custom wallpapers, window films, and ceiling tiles all with dynamic graphic designs that just are amazing when seen in finished application.” “The corporate office décor/wall graphics segment has a lot of 4.90% growth potential for years to come, said Chris Jackson, owner of Coldfire Signs, San Antonio. “This is due to the fact that more and more businesses are seeing the value of changing the work environment both for employees and customers.” “Interior Designers are pushing environmental art graphics for offices,” said Mary Lou Goehrung, owner of Signs By Tomorrow in Rockville, MD. “Use of large-format fabrics, wallpaper, vinyl in office spaces, store fronts, stairwells, walls, decorative privacy films are gaining immense popularity.” Identity Signs’ Albers concurred. “Corporate office branding is changing, and employees are taking notice. If a company has a manila cube type work environment employees are often jumping ship to the next, new exciting company. To keep up with the shift, companies are decking out workplaces to be more comfortable and workable. Environmental graphics and branding is increasing in the workplace and are not just plain graphics on a wall anymore.” The overall takeaway from the Top Shops of 2016 is the need to constantly be innovating. None of these shops have rested on their previous successes, and they are always looking for new applications, new customers, new markets, and new ways to make their shops more efficient. At the end of the day, that is the type of thinking that makes a shop stand out and takes them from simply surviving to being one of the most influential and profitable shops in the country.
