Kiaro! is its new inkjet color label printer that is reported to combine excellent print quality with high-speed label printing and low cost of ownership. Delivering Consistent Color Pacross the Enterprise roducing the “right” color is as important as the ability to produce the “same” color over time and across multiple printers. And Xerox (Booth 613) has a number of solutions to help customers deal with the challenge of getting consistent color prints from multiple presses, providing options from locally hosted to cloud-hosted solutions that utilize Xerox and/or partner technologies. Two solutions that are showcased in the Xerox booth in the workflow hub are Xerox IntegratedPLUS Automated Color Management and Xerox MatchAssure. Xerox IntegratedPLUS Automated Color Management (ACM) is a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution that works with industry leading partners CGS ORIS and CMI. This innovative, cloud-based solution can centrally manage color using tools and procedures to access, monitor, and update the activity of an entire fleet versus an individual press. The solution emphasizes process control as the foundation of good color management. Additional tasks such as verifying virtual printer queue settings, creating profiles, and broadcasting of spot colors can all be performed remotely. Virtual printer queue verification enables customers to establish measured values which become part of the baseline for production runs. This provides an automated means to validate subsequent production runs to provide the best match possible to the original approved print. As a cloud-based solution, ACM requires minimal to no IT investment for 1-N sites. The result is simplified color management for multiple printers and multiple sites. The solution works with both Xerox and non-Xerox digital presses as well as offset. It can greatly increase the efficiency of workflows by allowing customers to remotely access and respond to the status of their presses. Automation is maximized when an inline spectrophotometer (ILS) is used and a new nearline spectrophotometer capability enhances automation with network connectivity for presses without an ILS. Automation and central management reduce reliance on highly trained operators and help eliminate differences in color management processes between operators and/ or locations. MatchAssure is a unique color management solution that was designed using the latest Xerox color profiling technology. The goal with MatchAssure is to have all printers match as closely as possible to a print specification such as GRACoL or Fogra. If all the printers are matched to the same standard, they will all render a file very similarly, which will then result in all printers closely matching one another. MatchAssure combines software loaded on a PC with an attached spectrophotometer to produce a highly accurate ICC compliant Destination Profile for each digital press. The MatchAssure software performs multiple iterations to produce a high accuracy profile to the GRACoL or Fogra standard. Just print and measure a target sheet once for each printer. This saves time and reduces disruption to production schedules. For customers printing photo books or applications with images in an RGB color space, MatchAssure delivers realistic color featuring excellent shadow detail, contrast and smoothness. Customers can personalize the look of their applications by using the slider bars on the GUI to edit features such as contrast and lightness as well as reds and greens. Slider bars for “memory colors,” which include skies and skin tones, allow localized edits which do not affect the entire image. In addition to profiling features, MatchAssure also offers the ability to monitor color data for selected presses (using an inline spectrophotometer) to compare a press’ status to an industry aim (GRACoL or Fogra). This helps maintain and correct color quality over time, and in between creation of profiles. These two solutions are part of Xerox Confident Color, a suite of technology and resources that take the work out of delivering the color customers expect. KKelvyn Press Goes Digital with MGI elvyn Press in Broadview, IL is a family owned and operated commercial printing business that has been in existence since 1934. For many decades it was housed in Chicago’s storied “Printer’s Row” neighborhood in Kelvyn Park. In 1968, the Malacina family took over the business and has since expanded nationally by creating a separate company, called Financial Graphic Service (FGS), with a dedicated focus on government, financial, banking, securities, health care, legal, and regulatory projects. In 2015, the Printing Industries of America (PIA) recognized the quality of Kelvyn’s work with MGI (Booth 3013) digital technology with a “Premier Print Award.” Additionally, the Binding Industries of America (BIA) awarded them a Product of Excellence (POE) Award. The PIA also recognized the MGI iFOIL product in 2015 with an internationally prestigious “InterTech Technology Award” to match the one earned by the JETvarnish 3D in 2013. After 80 years in business, Kelvyn Press invested in MGI technology in 2014 to launch a new Digital Print Department with the Meteor DP8700XL+ press and the JETvarnish 3D & iFOIL integrated finishing suite. It also upgraded the JETvarnish 3D with the T2 option–a second row of inkjet heads that can double throughput speed and Spot UV elevations up to 200 microns. Since then, the machines have not stopped running and Kelvyn’s business has grown with new work producing brochures, catalogs, invitations, envelopes, business cards, books, and many more profitable new enhanced print applications. “Digital has been getting bigger each year. The whole industry is going digital. It is an inevitable business transition of technology. The MGI JETvarnish & iFOIL finishing solutions have opened up a whole new doorway to new business opportunities,” says Tony Malacina, Kelyvn’s Director of Operations. Working with the prototyping options of the JETvarnish 3D & iFOIL allows Kelvyn Press’ customers to play with ideas and experiment with different choices. “The MGI digital technology brings out their creative spirit and helps them appreciate the value of print,” says Malacina. “With MGI, there are so many foil, color, texture, and substrate options to choose from. We find this helps build good customer relationships, leads to more referrals, and ultimately generates more revenue for the firm. “Clients can change their print selections and enhancement options to adapt to changing business conditions or market cycles. For example, for each season, the output can have a different theme for spring, summer, fall, and winter, or an English or Spanish version personalized for each recipient.” Kelvyn Press has created a gallery of samples in its visitor area. Customers can use this area to get inspired to use their imagination for new projects, which leads to new revenue. “With MGI digital printing and finishing technology, all we need is a PDF file to print a new brochure or publish a new book,” says Malacina. 26 September 16, 2015 | GRAPH EXPO Official Show Daily | PrintingNews.com
