Third KBA Rapida 145 Large Format Press Installed at Walter G. Anderson Further investing in its growth and high customer satisfaction in the folding carton market, Walter G. Anderson, Inc., a respected independent supplier of folding cartons, installed its third KBA (Booth 213) Rapida 145 57" seven-color press with coater at its facility in Newton, IA where it joined twin KBA Rapida 145 57" presses with coaters, which were installed over a four-year time span. The firm’s sleek 175,000 sqft facility outside of Des Moines, built in 2011, is a showplace for KBA presses, and with the third Rapida 145 added this year, will boast the single largest number of these new high-performance presses in the world. First to market “Ever since we first saw the new Rapida 145 large format press in action before it was officially announced, we’ve been thoroughly impressed with its performance and production,” says Marc Anderson, President and CEO of Walter G. Anderson, Inc. “Our first two Rapida 145 presses run round-theclock and have become workhorses producing our folding carton work. We’re pleased to install a third Rapida 145 here in Newton to provide the redundancy and flexibility that our valued customers deserve.” The new Rapida 145 seven-color press with coater is equipped with KBA’s award-winning technology. These features include a fully-automatic plate changer; CleanTronic Synchro providing simultaneous cleaning of inking rollers, blankets, and impression cylinders and includes dedicated package for inking unit drives; and ErgoTronic ColorControl for the highest quality printing. The firm installed its first Rapida 145 57" press with coater in August 2011 “under wraps” prior to its official debut at drupa 2012. Prior to the purchase, Anderson’s management team did its due diligence and researched the entire market of large format presses before choosing the Rapida 145. “It was the breakthrough press we were seeking,” recalls Anderson. “KBA has the leading reputation in large format and our prior eight KBA presses have operated very well.” Technology driven What drew Anderson to purchase a third Rapida 145? “Amazing technological ingenuities, the highest run speeds, redesign of the feeder, new delivery extension and Marc Anderson, President and CEO of Walter G. Anderson, Inc, stands between his firm’s twin KBA Rapida 145 57" presses with coaters. Driving Inkjet Growth in Transactional Documents There’s no denying the opportunities enabled by digital print. An estimated 50 trillion pages are produced worldwide using production print technology, only 2% of which are printed digitally… but it’s growing steadily at a compound rate of over 8%. To date there have really only been two primary classes of devices to capture these booming opportunities: cut-sheet toner and continuous feed inkjet. Unfortunately, these two technologies have failed to serve the entire marketplace. For print providers with large volumes to fill, the productivity and cost-per-page achieved by toner solutions may not be what they need. But for some, the acquisition costs and complexities of a full continuous feed or inkjet solution may prove to be prohibitive. This has created an unmet market need, referred to by InfoTrends as the ‘Zone of Disruption’. Satisfying this void would require a solution that sits between the fastest cutsheet color toner-based devices and that of high-speed color inkjet continuous feed. It would mean a solution that could provide productivity beyond what toner can deliver, and with the image quality needed to produce a range of applications…but in a smaller, more cost effective package. Introducing the Xerox (Booth 613) Rialto 900 Inkjet Press, the world’s smallest, fully delivery, user-friendliness, ability to pre-set different options, and being environmentally friendly allows our company to save on power and decrease our power consumption as well as providing shorter makereadies to reduce waste,” he says. integrated narrow web inkjet solution. This new narrow web, roll-to-cut sheet inkjet technology provides a path between the worlds of offset and digital and assists those who are making the journey from cut-sheet to continuous feed. Now, inkjet technology can be a reality for more print service providers by breaking down barriers such as high print volumes, large footprint, and costs. For those who previously saw entrance into inkjet as out of reach, this technology provides a cost-effective means to deliver everything from mono book pages to direct mail applications. It’s time to rethink inkjet and transform your business potential by delivering high-quality prints with 1000x1000 dpi resolution, complete with smoother gradients, tints, and sweeps and sharper details, lines and text for transaction, transpromo, and direct mail jobs. You can now move jobs from offset, cut-sheet digital or higher-end inkjet in a much more efficient manner. There is now a cost-effective solution to adding peace of mind and redundancy to your operation. By 2018, U.S. production color inkjet page volume will exceed that of digital color toner. The reason: inkjet brings to a higher volume band all the advantages of digital printing, including personalization, electronic collation, just-in-time manufacturing, workflow automation, and high-speeds and productivity. And that will transform the industry, enabling products and services that can’t be done with existing technologies. So, there’s no better time than now to rethink inkjet. Learn how inkjet can become a reality thanks to the Xerox Rialto 900 Inkjet Press. “Throughout all of our press installations, KBA has been supportive and offered on-site training as we brought new press operators onboard. Training has been superb and the KBA staff has been very patient,” says Anderson.
