The company, which offers document solutions that streamline, improve, and manage high-value, Katrina Fox, Marketing Specialist for Crawford Technologies, demonstrates the use of Voiceye technology to view a document in large type mode. high-volume documents, also used the opportunity to introduce Voiceye Maker for Operations Express. Voiceye Maker turns printed products into accessible documents for the visually and cognitively impaired. Using a free smartphone app, readers can scan the ultra-high-density Voiceye barcode and choose either to view the document in large type or have the document read out loud to them. They can also change the background to adjust the contrast for improved readability. HP High-Speed Inkjet Customers DRelate Success Stories uring Monday’s presentation titled, “Case Study Café: Telling their Story,” with best practices from HP (Booth 1202) high-speed inkjet customers, presenter David Murphy, Worldwide Director of Marketing and Business Development, HP’s PageWide Web Press division, talked about HP’s PageWide Web Press and satisfied HP customers. The first was Giorgio Albertini, General Manager of Rotomail Italia SpA. The second was Michele Brennan, VP Business Development and Marketing Communications with Bridgeport National Bindery in Agawam, MA. Rotomail is one of Europe’s largest digital color PSPs, and is destined to be the first company on the globe to install the HP Page- Wide Web Press T480 in its facility in Milan, Italy. Albertini has noted that the installation is necessary to “address growing variable data driven print volumes, increased demand for faster turnarounds, and a desire to expand application options.” He has further stated the HP PageWide Web Press T480 HD will provide the company with improved quality and productivity, helping Rotomail deliver to customers innovative new direct mail, commercial, and publishing applications. Brennan, the second customer introduced by HP, related her company’s experiences as an independent book publisher. The company bought its first HP printer in 2003, and now has a variety of HP presses, including the T230. Over the years, the distribution model in books has changed and it is no longer a pick-and-pack solution. Today, Brennan said, market expectation is short run. But volumes are growing. “Our saving grace was the purchase of the T230,” she added. “That got us into printing magazines, health care and softbound books.” Brennan’s company is now making complete hardcover books in six minutes flat. “But we want to shorten it to four or five,” she said. RSA Launches ReadyPrint Rochester Software Associates (RSA) (Booth 231) is debuting its new universal makeready tool, ReadyPrint. It is a simple to use prepress solution that simplifies and automates workflows by enabling commercial printers and in-plants to use one tool for the entire shop to modify and enhance customer print requests. ReadyPrint sends jobs directly to production printers even in multivendor environments. It includes all of the functionality of makeready software, offering maximum return and minimum investment by using one makeready tool for every production device: • Operators have the ability to choose the “best” printer for the job with a single application • Simplified training by using one make-ready tool for an entire print shop • Improved web to print and multi-device workflows with seamless integration into RSA’s WebCRD andQDirect workflow software. Powered by RSA’sAnyPrint technology, ReadyPrint works across all production device platforms, including ticketing direct to multi-vendor production printers.” A higher education beta customer commented, “We have found ReadyPrint easy to navigate with an intuitive design that will simplify and streamline makeready.” International Minute Press Buys PPresstek 52DI Digital Offset Press resstek, LLC (Booth 2640) announced that International Minute Press based in Boise, ID, purchased a Certified Pre-Owned Presstek 52DI digital offset press at GRAPH EXPO 15. The Presstek 52DI digital offset press aligns nicely with the mission of Bryan’s print business.” Chmielewski continues, “Chosen for its benefits such as digital efficiency, high quality output, and fast turnaround, International Minute Press now has the ideal print system to profitably address the demand for affordable short-run full color printing.” Xerox’s School to Career Program XProvides Industry with Talent erox’s (Booth 613) School to Career Program answers the question, “Where do I find the employees I need to run my business?” At the SkillsUSA booth (570), Bob Hivish, Xerox’s Manager of MPS Offerings, Marketing, and Public Sector Programs, discussed the opportunity the program offers to identify talent that might otherwise fall through the cracks, train them in all aspects of the digital print business, and connect them with companies who need their skills. “The School to Career Program is created to help build the future print industry workforce,” explained Hivish. “Four-year degrees aren’t for everyone, but opportunity is. Our program is designed for the traditional and nontraditional student.” Standards for the program are defined by the industry as formalized by the Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF). Xerox works with organizations like SkillsUSA and the Literacy Project. “Our students walk out with the skills and knowledge to make them good, prospective candidates,” says Hivish. Tasha Carter, director of the digital learning academy for the YWCA Greater Los Angeles, provided personal testimony to the success of Tasha Carter and Bob Hivish these efforts. On September 12, the YWCA graduated its first nine students. “Our students come from inner city area, socio-economically disadvantaged areas,” she said, noting that the YWCA’s program was enhanced with database programming, coding, and 3D printing. “They can’t afford college or it isn’t the right path for them.” The graduates ranged from 18 to 40 years old. Two have already found full-time positions in the industry and the others are interviewing in verticals ranging from aerospace to fashion. “One was just hired as a graphic designer,” Carter said. “This is her dream job.” The Digital Literacy Project has 80 programs in 20 states. Printers, industry vendors, and others looking for new, skilled talent can reach out and be connected to graduating students.
