Coffee Table Book Documents the Beauty of Sarasota’s Season of Sculpture After staging biennial exhibitions of monumental sculptures created by internationally artists for more than a decade, the Sarasota Sculpture Centre sought to document this work in a coffee table book. Serbin Print Marketing & Publishing designed and printed the short-run book, which has earned rave reviews, while helping the Sarasota Sculpture Centre organization raise awareness and secure additional funding for future projects. The Sarasota Sculpture Centre has been producing monumental sculpture exhibitions on Sarasota’s bay front since 1999, showcasing some 140 sculptures by 103 artists representing 18 U.S. states and 13 foreign countries. The organization stages these exhibitions and various educational programs to enrich the cultural and educational experience of residents and visitors, and to serve as an international model of and destination for public art. It also ties well with Sarasota’s claim to be Florida’s “cultural coast.” Serbin Print Marketing & Publishing produced the book, performing all of the creative, layout, typesetting, scanning, photo re-touching, color correction, printing, and fi nishing for the project. Because the print run was relatively short, digital printing offered the most cost-effective production method, so Serbin ran it on the company’s Xerox (Booth 1625) Color 1000i Press with an EFI (Booth 1349) Fiery Digital Print Server. To make the photos pop, the fi rm printed the inside pages on 100 lb Gloss Text. In addition to offset, digital, and wide-format printing services, GAM provides their clients with mailing, bindery, fulfi llment, marketing, and top-notch creative services. For forty years, customers have relied on GAM’s experience and expertise to help them successfully amplify their message and ensure their brand is always presented in the most professional manner. Challenge GAM is known to its more than 1,300 customers in the Virginia region and across the country for its fast turnaround times and high-quality output. However, Nathaniel Grant, GAM’s Owner, saw room for growth into high-end retail, customized promotions, and packaging as well as the restaurant and hospitality industries. To make the jump, they needed to fi nd a rightpriced technology solution to help their outstanding output stand out even more. Solution The Ricoh (Booth 2035) Pro C7110X is a powerful, affordable fi ve-station, digital color production print system. This device, in addition to providing support for eye-catching clear and white toner, oversized sheet, and specialty media applications, brings 1200 x 4800dpi with VCSEL image quality. These capabilities, paired with a 90ppm speed to maintain GAM’s reputation for quick turns, provided an affordable entry point for GAM to begin offering fi ve-color printing to its customers. By adding a fi fth color station to the mix, Grant could now offer output on dark stock, such as black loyalty cards with white toner, an eye-catching example many traditional presses can’t replicate. In addition the RicohPro C7110X added other capabilities to GAM’s arsenal, including the ability to produce decals, oversized brochures, and gift cards with security features. Results Working with Ricoh, GAM certainly achieved its goal of making inroads to new, challenging business opportunities. “The Ricoh Pro C7110X really leveled the playing fi eld for us,” says Grant. “Instead of watching complex jobs walk right out the door because we didn’t have the in-house capabilities, we were suddenly able to keep those dollars inhouse and grow. The Ricoh Pro C7110X brought more value to our business as well as our customers’ businesses.” The gloss effect of the Clear Toner on the Ricoh Pro C7110X Series allows PSPs like GAM to create a premium look on store catalogs, business cards, packaging, and more—quickly, affordably, and all inline. On top of being able to take on new types of business, GAM was able to increase volume with their current customer base. In fact, Grant has been so pleased with the results of his work with Ricoh, he has since placed an order for a Ricoh Pro C9110 to help drive even higher volumes while still providing vibrant color to his customers. How Sweet It Is Back by attendee demand, GRAPH EXPO 16 will highlight the sweet spot of wide-format inkjet printing inside the Inkjet Candy Store. The fi nished book comprises 181 pages, showcasing 132 sculptures by 96 artists. “This is another fi ne example of the quality of work that the Xerox Color 1000i Press is capable of. It has helped us show many potential clients just how good our digital printing capabilities really are,” says Mark Serbin, President, Serbin Print Marketing & Publishing. The four-color retrospective book of six seasons of monumental sculpture in Sarasota was well received in the community. It helped raise awareness of the Sarasota Sculpture Centre and has helped the organization secure additional funding to continue contributing to Sarasota’s cultural community. For Serbin Print Marketing & Publishing, the book is a powerful sample that showcases the organization’s wide range of design and production skills, as well as the high image quality that can be achieved with the Xerox Color 1000i Press.
