From Racing Cars to Hockey Pucks Derek Kneblewski started his and vice versa,” he says. By combining the capabilities of his two Rolands, Kneblewski has even created custom packaging. He perf-cuts card stock on the VersaCAMM, then uses the LEF- 20’s spot UV color to print a logo directly on the package. “Having both a printer/cutter and a UV printer gives me a lot of design flexibility,” he says. “There’s so much more I can do now for my clients.” EMPOWERING THE ENVELOPE AND PRINTED MAIL Kneblewski describes his work as a “one- man show.” He controls his production for both machines using Roland’s VersaWorks RIP software. “VersaWorks is super smooth – just a few clicks and the jobs go to either the VersaCAMM or the LEF,” he says. With both the LEF and VersaCAMM, Kneblewski has found plenty of opportunities to provide new services to existing clients. “The capabilities of the two machines piggy back off each other. Now, along with vehicle graphics, banners, and decals, Daub It prints custom designs directly on promotional products including pens, ID cards, plastic business cards, and, of course, hockey pucks. His clients are wowed by the UV printer’s results. He notes, “Most of my clients have only used screen printing before. With the LEF, I can print somebody’s face right on a product.” Kneblewski started Daub It to handle side projects in addition to his ongoing work for Mantis Sport, the performance division of Mantis Racing, Inc. For Mantis, Kneblewski prints and cuts vehicle graphics on his VersaCAMM for Porsche racing club cars and other high-performance vehicles. Now he also uses the LEF to print the company’s logo directly on its performance pulleys. “Printing directly on the metal gives the product a more professional look,” says Kneblewski. Many of Daub It’s clients are small businesses and start-ups. Kneblewski controls his costs by purchasing items in bulk and dividing the work among his clients. “With the capabilities of the LEF, I can painlessly do a lot of short runs,” he says.
