TReturn of the Converting & Package Printing Expo he Converting & Package Printing (CPP) EXPO again co-locates with GRAPH EXPO 15 this week in Chicago. CPP EXPO is the premier event for the converting/package printing marketplace, including: flexible packaging, folding carton/box-making, corrugated converting, tissue converting and narrow web/ tags and labels. The educational program brings together all disciplines under one roof, from printing processes including flexo, gravure, and digital to finishing that focuses on coatings, laminating, drying, and more. Leading industry groups, including the Association of Industrial Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators (AIMCAL) and the Converting Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA), facilitate an exchange that provides the most dynamic and diverse programming available. Slitting & Rewinding: Room S504c This seminar is ideal for anyone involved with the slitting and rewinding operations for paper, film, nonwovens, and other continuous flexible materials. The people who design and manufacture slitting and rewinding equipment will take you step by step through the best practices techniques in such areas as winding, slitting, cores and cutting, retrofitting, chucks, shafts, spreading, and guiding. Topics covered include: • Winding • Slitter specifications • Safety • Slitting techniques • Knife care • Deformation and dust • Slitting positioning • Trim removal • Safety and core chucks • Air shafts • Web spreading • Web guiding and tension Coating & Drying: Room S504d This seminar takes attendees through the web coating operation from unwind to rewind, with everything in between. The instructors are experts on their topics and present the fundamentals of coating and drying through engaging presentations. The presentations will include real world tips for improving productivity, reducing downtime and waste, and increasing yield and throughput. Topics covered include: • Substrate cleaning • Treatment options • Coating methods • Defect management • Pilot coating • Laminating • Drying • Drying systems • On-line controls • Winding • Rollers • Web guiding and tension Registration is $295 per seminar and includes: a hard copy of the slides and a USB stick of all presentations at the end of the conference (upon turning in a completed evaluation). All attire is business casual. Ties are not required or expected. GTI to Feature Industry-Leading Color Viewing Systems at GRAPH EXPO 15 GTI Graphic Technology, Inc. It provides ISO 3664:2009 compliant viewing conditions in a convenient vertical format. Available in three standard sizes with viewing areas ranging from 40x45" to 64x45". • MiniMatcher Series: The MiniMatcher series is ideal for the viewing of inks, coatings, consumer goods, packaging, and more. Four models are offered with viewing areas ranging from 11x17" to 23x25". • Color Rendition Demonstrator: The Color Rendition Demonstrator is a three-compartment viewer that demonstrates the color rendition of three varied light sources—fluorescent cool-white “store light”, 6500K fluorescent “daylight”, and incandescent “home light.” The Color Rendition Demonstrator allows you to easily educate your clients and vendors on how color is affected by different light sources. On Monday, September 14, from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, join your fellow College of Imaging Arts and Sciences (CIAS) Alumni for the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) School of Media Sciences GRAPH EXPO Alumni Reception. This year, CIAS is back at McCormick Place—Room S103d at McCormick Place South—and will feature hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, as well as an opportunity to meet the new School of Media Sciences administrative chair, Greg D’Amico, who will speak briefly about the future direction of the school. Admission to the reception is free. After the reception, head out to U.S. Cellular Field to take in a White Sox game. A limited number of tickets for the White Sox vs. Athletics game (7:10 pm start) are available on a first come, first served basis to registered attendees (one ticket per person).
