GraphExpo Show Daily Day 1

Morgana: Latest High Page-Count Bookletmakers Take Center Stage Morgana Systems Ltd (Booth 2448) has a strong presence at the show where the equipment range will be significantly enhanced with latest product introductions in heavy-duty, high page-count bookletmakers, with product being shown for the first time at GRAPH EXPO 15. Bookletmaker for up to 200-page publications Products on show at the event includes the BM500, a machine capable of producing booklets of up to 200 pages. It is the first Morgana bookletmaker to incorporate the new full-colour touchscreen interface giving very clear visible instructions to the operator on all machine functions. The bookletmaker can be supplied with a lead edge trimmer and with the Morgana Squarefold option for flat edged books. It is partnered by the BM350, a similar platform producing booklets of up to 35 sheets of 20-pound– equating to 140 page publications. Vacuum feed option Morgana is previewing for the first time the new VF602 vacuum fed version of their twin bin high capacity feeder. Commenting on this, Ray Hillhouse, VP of Offline Sales, says: “We are very excited about this new addition to the range. The air-assisted AF602 was launched at GE last year and has been very successful, but some applications are simply more suited to a vacuum feeding head, so now we have it! The feeder is initially available for the 2000 Series bookletmakers, but will be available for the new BM500 later this year.” Bar code reading system Both VF602 and AF602 feeders can now be equipped with a Bar Code Reading system for variable data applications. Hillhouse adds: “We’re being asked for barcode reading from sectors where there is a need for absolute set integrity or the need to produce booklets with variable page counts, such as personalised financial reports. This system answers these needs perfectly.” Perfect binding for ultra-short runs Morgana is showing its DigiBook 200 perfect binding solution, as debuted at the show last year. The binder is ideal for short and ultra-short runs of books with spines measuring up to 2". Get smart with SmartScreen Morgana’s exhibit features several machines from their Pro range of creasers and folders, all controlled with the SmartScreen touchscreen. The market leading AutoCreaser 33 is being shown with the latest software, which includes an application specifically designed for perfect bound cover production. The larger sized AutoCreaser Pro 50 is running with the AutoFold Pro inline folding unit. The AutoFold Pro can AutoCreaser Pro 33 be added to any existing Morgana creaser or to other manufacturers creasing machines. The DigiFold Pro creaser/folder is on show and continues to be the market leader in class, offering unrivalled production in terms of quality and accuracy. This machine can crease and fold stock up to 0.015" thick without cracking the toner or stock surface. Tharstern MIS Integrates Workflows The world’s first MIS seamlessly linking Kodak (Booths 823) and HP (Booth 1202) workflows has been installed by Tharstern (Booth 158) at Pureprint Group. Tharstern was chosen by Pureprint as its technology partner to supply a system that supports the group’s growth strategy and brings major efficiency and business infrastructure benefits. The MIS integrates workflows between the Kodak Prinergy Pre-Press Workflow, Heidelberg Press Room Manager linking five XL presses, HP SmartStream Production Pro feeding the five Indigo digital presses, and Pureprint’s Purity web-toprint and e-commerce platforms. Tharstern’s integration to JDF and JMF to HP SmartStream and Kodak Prinergy provides an automated workflow for web-toprint order submission as well as valuable costing data. The installation consists of: • Deploying Tharstern’s estimating module to help streamline full integration functionality in estimating and enable estimators to be better informed about different production options • Implementation of Tharstern’s CRM to help unify sales process providing management for sales and marketing strategy • Implementation of an iPad app to Pureprint field-based sales teams • Implementation across Pureprint’s multiple warehouses including barcode scanning, multi-location stock control for both raw material and finished goods, as well as advanced pick and pack routines. Tharstern is the preferred MIS partner of Heidelberg and HP and has numerous proven Kodak Prinergy integrations, as well as a number of Esko integrations where Tharstern aids CAD functionality through the estimating module. Pureprint’s COO, Anthony Thirlby, says: “As part of Pureprint’s repositioning and rapid growth strategy in which turnover is projected to rise from £42 million to group sales of £58 million in 2015, it’s imperative that the business has the correct infrastructure to continue with its growth strategy, maximizing business opportunities and gaining full commercial leverage from the integration capabilities of all its deployed platforms. “After an extensive market evaluation, it was clear that Tharstern’s systems and expertise would be the perfect choice to deliver the future plans for Pureprint. This will be a world first with complete cross platform infrastructure and integration.” Mark Handford, CEO of Pureprint Group, says: “Tharstern clearly demonstrated it has a strong team of experts, which we considered to be an essential differentiator for a vendor proposing to provide a fully integrated MIS. The company has taken a lot of time and effort in getting to know and understand our current and future business requirements.” 54 September 13, 2015 | GRAPH EXPO Official Show Daily | PrintingNews.com
