VDelve Deeper into CHILI Publisher iewed as a game-changer by technology experts, CHILI Publisher (Booth 441) is SaaS accessible to any number of job collaborators with over 150 editing, layout, and design tools that can be used with files imported from Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator, or created in CHILI Publisher, itself. CHILI Publisher also supports: • PDF files: Either from within CHILI BackOffice, or through the API, a document can be created based on a PDF file. When importing the PDF, CHILI will preserve: • All pages (which are placed as locked image frames on the background of each page) • All PDF boxes • Bookmarks • Annotations: Content from the PDF (texts, images, and other frames) is not editable in CHILI Editor. The pages are placed as locked background content. PDF Import can be used for a variety of reasons: • Create CHILI documents for approval by end users (using annotations and other features) • Use as the basis for a CHILI design, with the PDF in the background (to get a preview of the old data) • Quickly have the background of a CHILI document, and add some (variable) frames on top of that • XML-based documents: All CHILI documents are XML based, in a documented format. Any external application can generate this XML and create (or update) documents using such XML. Similarly, a CHILI package can be generated by an external application (as is the case for the Adobe InDesign Extension). • Collada files: With CHILI Publisher v4, it is possible to import a 3D object (Collada) and map any personalized document on to objects. One of the most sought-after features in CHILI Publisher is its 360°, 3D instantaneous display of new and edited files, including individual (variable) jobs and complete folding simulations. All designers and marketers know the challenge of explaining what a file document will look like when produced, to clients. This situation can be cimespecially when the document is folded or cut in a certain way. Think of the most simple document, folded in three; and you know there are many folding possibilities, including Z-folds, U-folds, and more. CHILI 3D Folding introduces an easy way to configure a video-like movie to present the document and the folding of the document to the others. This is done via a straightforward list of steps that make up a playlist. The playlist can contain, for instance, different view angles to present the document from different sides. The client or other stakeholder can now view the object from all sides, as if she/he were holding it in his/her hand. Within the 3D viewer, the operator can freely rotate an object in all directions. To simplify this process for the client and other stakeholders, if needed, operators can set up a script for how the object should be displayed in 3D. In addition, if the operator wants to manipulate the document, he or she can simply pause the “video” and interactively play with the document by rotating, or even opening or closing the pages (sides) of the model. If the document ends up in an angle where the viewer is lost, simply hit the play button, and the predefined playlist will start over again. The playlist can also be auto-generated. With an auto-generated playlist, CHILI Editor will instantly present a best-fit setup for this folding scheme. When the auto generated playlist is ready, power users can add, remove or change certain steps in the playlist, which is modified accordingly. CHILI 3D Folding is not a packaging production tool, but rather focuses on the content approval part of 3D visualization. CHILI Editor fits in the workflow where end-users want to see and edit their content. 3D Folding helps them to visualize the content on the 3D shape. This ensures that content on one side of the box does not interfere with other content, when the document is folded. Additional efficiency benefits include: 1) the ability to use (re-use) one 3D folding scheme for several documents, and 2) the option to use/re-use the same layout or template presented with different content or, alternating layouts (builds) for different multichannel use. Paper vs. Pixels? The Results Are In at Two Sides’ Annual Meeting Two Sides North America (formerly Two Sides U.S.) was launched in 2012 to offer education and information about the sustainability of print and paper, as well as create a forum for members to work together and share experiences, improve standards and practices, and and maximize customer confidence in paper products. All members of the public are welcome to attend Two Sides North America’s annual meeting, which takes place today, September 15, from 12:30 to 4:30 pm in Room N427d, McCormick Place North. On the agenda is a presentation by Mary Anne Hansan, Executive Director of the Paper and Packaging Board, who is discussing the recent consumer ad campaign “How Life UnfoldsTM” that launched this summer to promote paper and packaging. John Runyan, Executive Director of Consumers for Paper Options (CPO), is providing an overview of CPO, an advocacy group that works with industry, non-profit groups, and private citizens to ensure that paper based information and services remain available from government for citizens who want or need them. CPO has been involved in several high-profile efforts before Congress and Federal agencies on this subject over the past year, and Runyan will update meeting attendees on its efforts. Phil Riebel, President of Two Sides North America, is presenting the results of Two Sides’ latest study on print vs. screens for reading, literacy, and learning (spoiler alert: great news for print). Also at GRAPH EXPO 15, Two Sides North America is co-sponsoring the annual Positively Print Award. In its sixth year, the Positively Print program is designed to recognize print advocacy campaigns that promote the enduring power and sustainability of print in today’s multi-channel media mix. “GRAPH EXPO is the event that regroups all those interested and focused on print in North America,” says Riebel. “Given that Two Sides’ mission is to promote the sustainability of print and paper, this is an ideal venue for us to spread the positive word about our industry’s products and potentially attract new members to Two Sides.” For detailed information about the Two Sides North America annual meeting, visit www.twosidesna.org/US/Two-Sides-Annual-Meeting.
