manroland web systems Expands Press Controls Footprint to Include Entire Web Press Market With the recent trends from several web press manufacturers to decrease their focus on controls retrofits for existing newspaper presses, manroland web systems (Booth 1267) is now poised to utilize their custom phased approach to controls upgrades and retrofits for all web presses, including those not bearing the manroland web systems brand. The vision for launching this comprehensive controls retrofit plan is simple: using manroland web systems’ phased upgrade process, manroland’s technological advances in the area of controls are now available to customers with web presses of all brands. Accessing manroland’s PECOM-X ControlDesk interface through electronic gateways, the possibilities for increased capabilities range from efficient production controls that increase productivity while also reducing waste and labor costs, to unit-based additions for increased color and format flexibility. The performance-based excellence of the controls technology used on manroland presses has taken great leaps in recent years, continually improving waste management, and easeof use. Now, by utilizing off-the-shelf approved hardware to achieve production excellence, the use of non-proprietary hardware has opened the door for all web printers to benefit from manroland web systems’ press controls engineering expertise. “The time is right for us to offer these technologies as a solution for all web press brands. In this market, web printers need to not only extend the life of their existing installed base, but also increase production, color, and format flexibility. Our controls technology, which has been proven in the field to be top-of-the-line, is a perfect fit,” says Greg Blue, manroland web systems North America CEO. “We have been using customized, phased approaches for years, insuring our customers get the benefits of updated controls systems without massive capital expenditures or interruptions to production,” remarks Blue, “Our customers have had the benefit of the depth of knowledge provided by manroland web systems’ engineers, and now we are able to provide that knowledge, along with first rate hardware and software solutions, to web printers across the board.” The controls automation technologies team in the Americas is led by John Davis, Business Development Manager, Retrofits. With 39 years of experience in the industry, including nine Process Patent Awards, Davis is well-positioned to utilize his engineering and controls expertise to assist pressrooms in increasing their productivity and efficiencies through updating their controls systems. With the launch of controls retrofits to the market at-large, the manroland web systems team continues to focus on its strategy in North America to provide pressrooms with what they are asking for: practical solutions which provide increased production efficiency and flexibility to existing pressroom equipment.
